The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office presented its annual awards last week, with three employees from the Brandon substation recognized for superior work.
Deputy Gary Godschalk, substation desk officer, received the Professional Excellence Citation.
‘Gary has done a wonderful job,? said Substation Commander, Sgt. Pete Burkett. ‘He is here everyday giving 150 percent, even after 37 years of service.?
In his nomination to the awards council, Burkett wrote that with those 37 years of service, Godschalk brings vast knowledge and life experience to the substation, and also has uncanny people skills.
‘He interacts continually with the public, always in a professional, friendly, and courteous manner. Deputy Godschalk goes above and beyond daily with his ideas to help make the substation run and function better. It is a pleasure to work with such a dedicated officer.?
Godschalk said he felt very privileged to receive the award for doing a job he enjoys.
Also recognized by the OCSO Awards Council were Detective Dale Brown and Deputy Randy Tarp. The officers were given equivalency bars after being nominated by the Hazel Park Police Department for their work on July 15 in offering mutual aid after a tanker truck carrying 9,000 gallons of unleaded gasoline and 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel overturned on I-75. The resulting explosion caused the collapse of the 9 Mile Road overpass.
Brown and Tarp assisted on perimeter security for several hours.
