On Dec. 2, Brandon Township resident Michael Boadway pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and felonious assult following a May 3 incident following a township home invasion.
He appeared before Sixth Circuit Court Judge Leo Bowman and was sentenced on Tuesday to 90 days in jail along with two years probation. Terms of the sentence include participation in a mental health and anger management programs.
Boadway, 47, was arrested on July 28 and arraigned the next day in 52-2 District Court on charges of aggravated assault. He was released on $5,000 bond.
According to Oakland County Sheriff’s reports, deputies from the Brandon Substation responded to the 1000 block of Hummer Lake Road at 12:15 a.m., after a report of a home invasion. Boadway was a suspect in a baseball bat attack on homeowner Gary Klanke.
Boadway allegedly entered Klanke’s home about 11:30 a.m. attacked him with a baseball bat. Klanke’s 16-year-old son was sleeping in the bedroom next to his father and heard the commotion in the hallway. The youth allegedly hit Boadway in the face with his fist, then took the baseball bat from him. The youth beat Boadway about the body while Gary pinned him down until deputies arrived. Boadway later told deputies that he and Jean Klanke, Gary’s wife, had conspired to ‘rough up the husband a little,? according to sheriff’s deputies? reports.
Jean Klanke was sentenced before Judge Steven Andrews on Nov. 4 to 18 months probation for her part in an assault with a dangerous weapon on her husband.
Terms of her sentence include regular alcohol and drug testing, and participation in a mental health program.
In 1998 Boadway pleaded guilty to assault and battery along with retail fraud of $1,000 or more a felony conviction.
