Brandon School board candidates shoo-in for November

Brandon Twp.- D’j? vu.
Kevin McClellan and Chris Yuchasz, current and former school boardmembers, appear to be guaranteed shoo-ins to open seats on the board for next term.
As the deadline passed Aug. 16 to be placed on the Nov. 8 ballot, McClellan and Yuchasz were the only candidates that filed to run for two available 4-year terms.
‘I love the experience that Chris is bringing back and Kevin has been here all year,? said Superintendent Lorrie McMahon. ‘Both are experienced, so that is good. I was surprised that there were only two candidates.?
Yuchasz previously served two terms on the school board from 2000-2008. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office sergeant has lived in the Brandon School District since 1969 and is a 1977 Brandon High School graduate. He is married and the father of three children, two of whom currently attend Brandon Schools and one 2011 Brandon High School graduate.
‘I have a daughter in eighth grade, still have a sophomore, so I’m around it all the time anyway, might as well be on the board,? laughed Yuchasz. ‘I took a break, now I’m ready to get back to work. The economy, I don’t see it getting better, so there is never enough funding and right now, it’s lower than I can remember. I want to help work on the budget.?
McClellan was appointed to the school board in December to replace Beth Nuccio, who was elected Oakland County Commissioner, District 1. He is general manager of ATW Automation of Livonia, a global auto industry supplier. He has been a Brandon School District resident since 1999 and is married and the father of three children, one currently attending Brandon Schools and two Brandon High School graduates.
‘I’ve had a bit of a training session over the last 8-9 months and I’ve seen a lot of things that need attention and a lot of things I think I can help with,? McClellan said. ‘I want to serve my community and I bring a business operations focus to the board, which I think is needed. We’re under tremendous fiscal pressure and I think I can assist with that.?
