Brandon students: ‘We are most concerned about care and support?

To the editor:
My name is Patrick Wivo and I am writing this statement on behalf of the student body concerning the school board meeting that took place on Feb. 11. I was one of many citizens to speak at the meeting and I would like to congratulate every single person, no matter what side you were on, for speaking their mind. I urge you to keep in mind the students? role in this and how we are really affected.
I believe that as students we aren’t so affected by the politics of the situation, what we are most concerned about is care and support. An administrator such as a superintendent can show this by simply walking down the halls and giving out a smile or a handshake. We need our hearts to be touched. We need a superintendent that can stand up in front of us at pep rallies and give us motivation to be the most spirited school we can be. As a Brandon High School student who has been under Mr.Miller since he started, I have not seen anything like that.
We look up to teachers and administrators, and to see our teachers in such a state of low morale, there is no room for our light of spirit to shine. When our teachers are upset, we are upset. Most of us totally stand behind our teachers and understand what they are doing and why.
We also look up to parents, but when some parents and a former school board member are shooting us down, who are we supposed to look to for support?
We need to feel like a family, and right now I personally feel that we are far from that. Yes, we all need what is right for our community and township, but we really need is what’s right for our students. Please take the spirit of the students, sons and daughters of Ortonville, and future of this world into consideration. At the end of the day, we are affected the most.
