Brandon Twp. Library looking for a few more pen pals

Brandon Twp.- A postcard from Germany arrived at the library recently.
The message on it was written by Mahsu M., a fifth-grade student who lives in a flat in Bad Salzuflen.
‘My hobby is play football,? reads the postcard. ‘In Bad Salzuflen there is a cinema, a park. Bad Salzuflen is nice there is lots of people and we have a town, 2 towns. I hope to hear from you soon.?
Fran Hotchkiss, children’s librarian, hopes to find a pen pal from this community to match up with Mahsu, whose teacher is Lee Moore, Hotchkiss? brother.
The siblings have collaborated to begin a pen pal club between German students and children who match them in age here in the township. So far, she has received about 15 postcards from Germany.
‘The kids are really excited,? said Hotchkiss. ‘Our students have picked kids they thought would be the most interesting to write to… Writing letters is a lost art form. The kids can all see how people in another country live, how things are different and how they are the same. They learn about our culture and traditions and we learn about theirs.?
More pen pals are needed. Children ages 10 to 14-years-old are encouraged to choose a pen pal at the library. Details: 248-627-1462.
