Brandon Twp.-A 26-year-old township man will spend at least the next decade in prison for attacking a neighbor woman in September.
Michael Lee Friske was sentenced to 10-20 years in prison on Wednesday in front of Sixth Judicial Circuit Court Chief Judge Wendy Potts on charges of first degree home invasion, assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, and felonious assault.
‘This conviction was the result of a coordinated effort between the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office and the Michigan State Police crime lab,? said Assistant Prosecutor Ken Frazee. ‘It was a swift initial response by deputies that led to the apprehension of Friske and the conclusion he was the perpetrator in this case. The victim is grateful he is going to prison because she had been terrorized.?
According to police reports, in the early morning hours of Sept. 5, the victim, a woman in her mid-20s, was asleep on the couch with her 2-year-old daughter when she was awakened by a window breaking in the rear of the home located in the 3700 block of Red Bud Lane in the Clarkston Lakes Mobile Home Park.
While investigating the noise, she encountered Friske, who was armed with an edged weapon, in the hallway. A struggle ensued, during which she managed to get a door between them. She pushed the door, setting off an alarm, and escaped the home with her child to a neighbor’s home.
Friske fled the scene, but evidence left there led to his arrest and he pleaded guilty to the charges last month.
There were also indications that Friske, whose home is located behind the victim’s home, although he was unknown to her.
‘Judge Potts gave a very strong sentence based upon the manner in which he committed the crime,? said Frazee. ‘I am glad it resulted in a successful prosecution and I am pleased that the defendant is going to be incarcerated for some time. Hopefully this will rehabilitate him. This (sentence) brings peace to the victim, her family, and the community as a whole.?
