Brandon’s Relay for Life

Dear Editor,
My name is Emma John and I am the chairperson for the entertainment committee for the 2011 Brandon Relay for Life 24-hour fundraising event beginning on June 11 at the Varsity Drive track.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life event is a major fundraiser for cancer research and support in the United States. If you have never been to the Brandon Relay, you should come. It is a community event where participating teams have members walking the track for 24 hours. It is also alive with constant free entertainment, crafts sales, games, kids? activities, tributes to our friends and family that have been touched by cancer, and most importantly, a great sense of how a small community pulls together to make a big difference by raising money and supporting each other.
Our committee is looking for entertainment of all kinds? bands, soloists, jugglers, poms and cheer performers, storytellers, fire eaters, dancers and any other family friendly form of entertainment is needed. You provide the entertainment and we will provide the crowd and enthusiasm. We cannot compensate performers, but many advertise and pass out information on how to be booked for upcoming events.
Our entire committee is made up of Brandon High School students and we would like nothing better the Brandon District represented as much as possible and we are hoping the Brandon school staff and parents will support us in this goal. It will never happen without you!
Brandon’s Relay for Life is known for being one of the most successful in Michigan. We have a pretty tough goal to meet this year and will need the whole community to match it. So if you are willing to share your talent reach me at lovelife2359@aol.com or 248-410-6979. If you aren’t a performer please join us during the event itself so you can shop our fundraisers, grab a bite to eat and cheer on our teams, all in an effort to fight back against cancer and do what our area does best, join together!

Emma John
