EKG upgrade
Brandon Twp.- The township board unanimously approved Fire Chief Bob McArthur’s request to upgrade a 3-lead EKG unit to a 12-lead EKG unit.
The improved unit will allow medics to see all sides of the heart and transmit information to the hospital prior to arrival. The upgrade will increase the fire department’s number of 12-lead EKG units to four. BFD medics used one of the machines in January to save a man’s life.
The cost of a new 12-lead EKG unit is $29,000; however, the upgrade cost considerably less? $16,254.58.
Search & rescue
Brandon Twp.- Fire Department Captain/Medic Jerry Wivo and Sergeant/Medic Steve Pappas have been selected to become members of the Michigan Urban Search and Rescue Task Force.
The selection means the men are certified in technical rescues including high angle ropes, building collapse, confined space and trench. Both are also members of the North Oakland Technical Rescue Team.
Wivo and Pappas are now two of 30 Michigan USAR task force members, and were chosen from candidates in six counties and the city of Detroit.
‘It’s quite an honor for them and the department,? said Fire Chief Bob McArthur. ‘We’re proud of them. They are hardworking and dedicated people to our department and that service.?
