In a brief yet productive Clarkston School Board meeting on June 26, the board approved the budget, appointed a new assistant principal and one school board member said good-bye.
After holding a public hearing, the board voted 6-0 to approve the budget for the 2006-07 school year. Treasurer Ron Sullivan was not present at the meeting. Current estimates by the district expect the budget to run at nearly a $4.8 million deficit.
The board voted 5-1 to approve personal changes, including naming Brett McCall as the new assistant principal of Sashabaw Middle School. Joan Patterson cast the dissenting vote, saying she does not like the current process for staff evaluations and voted no to continue voicing her disapproval.
McCall replaces Glenn Gualtieri, who was named the new principal of Bailey Lake Elementary in May after Stephanie Mitchell resigned.
The meeting was also the last time Sheila Hughes voted as secretary for the board. Hughes did not seek reelection after serving 16 years on the board. Board members presented Hughes with gifts and thanked her for her dedication to the school district. Joseph Armstrong will take Hughes? place in July.
