Cardinals de-claw Wildcats 34-0

It wasn’t the way the Wildcats wanted to end their season but a determined Davison squad eliminated Oxford from the state playoffs last week, 34-0.
‘We could never get going,? said Coach Bud Rowley. ‘They won. They’re a good football team. They’re going on and we’re not.?
Rowley did not want to comment for the record but it seemed each time the Cats built a little momentum they were flagged for a penalty. They were whistled for 10 infractions that totaled 90 yards.
Oxford controlled the ball and time of possession in the game, by nearly 10 minutes, but could not stop Davison’s quick attacks and scoring.
The Cardinals, who are 10-0, provided a preview of what was to come when they scored their first touchdown on a 63-yard pass down the middle of the field with 3:54 left in the opening quarter. The play came on a third down and seven yards to go.
For the game, Davison was 11 for 12 on third down conversions and several of those conversions resulted in touchdowns or set up scores.
The Cardinals added two more scores in the second quarter and led 20-0 at halftime.
Davison showed a very balanced attack but used the passing game to set up most of its scores. The Cardinals added a fourth touchdown with 8:49 left in the third quarter and closed out the scoring with 1:55 left in the quarter.
The balanced Davison attack included 199 yards rushing and 184 passing. Quarterback Jared Cowan was only 4-for-14 passing but completed throws of 63, 45, and 29 yards. The 45 and 29 yard completions set up scores.
Cowan found the end zone three times for Davison, all on quarterback sneaks.
Oxford had 171 total yards. Quarterback Jeremy Bukoski completed 8 of 14 passes for 79 yards. Oxford had 92 yards on the ground.
Vinnie Ives led the attack with 61 yards while Zach Line had 21.
The Cats finished the season at 7-4 which was good enough for a second place in the Flint Metro League.
They won their opening state playoff game last week, 6-0, over Holly before falling in the district championship to Davison.
