Carson hopes to keep seat

If you ask Treasurer Curt Carson why he should be reelected, he’ll tell you he’s the most experienced for the job.
He refers to his service as treasurer since 2008, and points out, ‘I’ve had over 12 years of running my own businesses? and ?22 years of experience with the Government Affairs Committee at the North Oakland County Board of Realtors.?
Carson also feels that he has a record of making government more efficient. For example, citizens can pay their taxes on the Independence Township’s website. Since making online payment available, he’s ‘seen a 300 percent increase? in citizens settling up on the web.
Although he believes the board of trustees has accomplished a lot, Carson sees room for improvement.
‘In the economic state we’re in now, the board needs to deal less with politics and more with creating an atmosphere of job growth. Businesses don’t want to come to an area if a board is in-fighting all the time,? he explained.
The McLaren hospital project is an opportunity for business growth, according to Carson.
He believes if the board gets ?100 percent behind it,? the hospital will bring jobs, help stabilize the tax base, and encourage residents to move to the area and consume. ‘Every house that’s purchased creates seven jobs,? he said.
Carson who has lived in Independence Township since 1988, says he ‘love[s] the community,? and if residents ‘decide to keep me, I’ll give it all I have for the next four years.?
