Cassie Edgemon signs letter to play softball for MCC

Oxford High School’s own Cassie Edgemon has signed a letter of intent to play softball for Macomb Community College. She joins Coach Joe Cavataio in the Fall 2012-2013.
Edgemon was an infield standout for Coach Kristi McDevitt at Oxford High School, starting at third base for four consecutive years. Along with her stellar third base work, Edgemon has a career batting average of over .400.
While at OHS, Edgemon was honored with All-Conference, All-District, and All-League accolades. Edgemon won a varsity spot as a freshman and never relinquished it her entire time as a Wildcat, McDevitt boasted. McDevitt said that Cassie ‘knows the game very well.?
Edgemon is ‘a force to reckon with,? the coach went on. Edgemon plays out in front of the third base bag, and ‘nothing can get by her,? McDevitt said. The coach recalled a night when Edgemon fielded 18 line drives against Imlay City, leaving the Imlay’s third base coach shaking her head in disbelief.
In addition to her tenure with Coach McDevitt, Edgemon also played for the Oakland Sidewinders under coaches Stu Hastings and Jeff Hicks for six years. Edgemon was a member of 2007 MASA 12U State Champions, 2007 NSA 12U State Champions, 2010 MSA 16U ASA National Champions, and 2011 NSA 16U ‘A? State Champions.
Edgemon can be a fun-loving, joking friend, her coach said. But when it’s time to practice, or take part in a fund-raiser, or get a base hit, ‘Cassie’s the go-to girl,? McDevitt said. ‘It’s a privilege to have been able to see her evolve as a player and a woman.?
Macomb Community College softball coach Joseph Cavataio echoed McDevitt’s assessment.
She’s a ‘good student, and has been playing softball at a high level for a long time,? and is the type of athlete MCC is looking for.
Off the field, Cavataio, continued, Edgemon is ‘a smart, very aware, young adult from a good family who asks the right questions.?
On the field, she ‘has no fear,? Cavataio said, confirming that the Wildcat standout will continue at third base for MCC. To play third base, McDevitt and Cavataio agreed, ‘courage is a prerequisite.? Edgemon is well equipped for the task, they said.
Congratulations Ms. Edgemon on your success at Oxford High School, and best of luck as you move on to Macomb Community College!
