Brandon Twp.-More than 200 children in the Brandon School District will have a merrier Christmas this year thanks to the Community Christmas Toy Store.
The non-profit organization that collects donations of toys to benefit children in low-income families during the holidays set up shop this past week and again pulled off a very successful distribution Dec. 10, due to volunteers and a generous community.
“Everything went really well,” said Linda Mizejewski, CCTS president. “I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback and it ran really smooth. There were plenty of toys, stocking stuffers, books and pillows. We served around 210 kids from about 100 families.”
Toy collection begins in November and volunteers worked to sort the donated toys, books, games and more by age and gender on Dec. 8-9, establishing a “toy store” at St. Anne Church on Dec. 10 from which eligible parents were able to select gifts for their children ages newborn to 12-years-old.
“The volunteers were great and knew exactly what to do,” said Mizejewski. “We had some new volunteers and they loved it, and said they would come back again.”
