Cedar Crest students help refugees

Cedar Crest Academy adopted seven refugee families from Iraq, served by Lutheran Social Services of Michigan, for Christmas.
Students and their families went to the Refugee Services training center in Madison Heights, Dec. 10, with carloads of gifts. They met the families, shared a pizza lunch and then delivered the presents to the refugees? homes.
“It provides an opportunity for the children to bond and have something in common,? said Karen Jbara, whose three children attended Cedar Crest Academy, a private pre-K-eighth grade school in Springfield Township.
‘The opportunity to share our blessings with local families is valuable to us,? said school director Bette Moen.
