Celebrating 50 years

Fifty years ago, the cost of gas was 23 cents a gallon, the first copy machine was made, and Elvis Presley was yet to be the King of Rock ‘n? Roll. It was also when Clarkston Elementary first opened it’s doors to youngsters.
On Friday, May 23, the school celebrated their milestone with a special reception that brought together former and current teachers, principals, students and school families.

Celebrating 50 years of marriage, Arnie and Marilyn Zawacki renewed their wedding vows at St. Daniel’s Church on May 27. Following the Mass, a reception for 70 guests was held at Shepherd’s Hollow Golf Course.
Among the special guests were their children Ken (Roberta) Zawacki of Naperville, Ill.; Karen (Mark) Polczynski of Standish, Mich.;Ruth Hohnstein of Rochester, Minn.; Dave (Krista) Zawacki of Macomb, Mich; and 13 grandchildren.

Jim and Joyce Fisk, former Clarkston residents for over 35 years, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a party given in their honor by their children and grandchildren.
Several out of town friends and relatives from Massachusetts and Wisconsin were able to attend the celebration.
The Fisks were married on June 16, 1956 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. They have three children ? Cathy (Mike) Forst of Clarkston, Debbie (Dave) Bridgewater of Clarkston and Jeff (Tina) Fisk of Waterford. They also have nine grandchildren.

Clarkston residents Bill and Dolores (Muscat) Smart were wed on May 5, 1956 at St. Williams Church in Walled Lake, Mich.
The couple is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year by taking a cruise on the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Sea with their children Michael (Amy) Smart, Christina (Michael) Smith, Jeannie (Jim) Smiley and grandchildren Matt Smith, Elissa Smith, Calleja Smiley and Chloe Smiley.
