The 16U Orion Chargers won the AABC District Championship this past week with a dramatic 6-5 extra-inning win over the Farmington Spartans in the championship game. The Chargers went 5-0 in the tournament and are in the AABC Regionals in Coldwater, this week.
Coached by Lake Orion High School coaches Andy Schramek, Dennis Recknagel, and Eric Jennings, the Chargers had early round wins over the Farmington Spartans and Birmingham Blue Jays to advance to the winner’s bracket.
In the quarterfinals, the Chargers beat the Macomb Cobras 8-1 behind a solid pitching performance by Chris Baumann.
In the semi-finals against the North Oakland A’s, Vinny Booker pitched six strong innings and Eric Knoblock picked up the save in a hard fought 5-4 game.
The championship game remained close all game, with several momentum shifts until Andy Mosier doubled home Matt Fish for the winning run in the top of the eighth inning.
