Clarkston baseball captures another district title

Another goal was checked off the list for the Clarkston High School baseball team last weekend.
A week after grabbing the league title, the Wolves followed it up with a District title. Clarkston beat Waterford Kettering 16-6 before knocking off Waterford Mott 2-0 in the championship game.
In the championship game, Bobby Slaughter pitched a complete game shutout. Slaughter allowed three hits and walked two while striking out eight.
‘It was a really great game,? Clarkston coach Phil Price said. ‘Slaughter pitched a fabulous game and we really played well defensively with no error.?
Clarkston scored their two runs in the fourth inning. Derek Ranck led off with a single which was followed by a Sam Palace double. Aaron Powell walked to load the bases while Addison Turk got the big hit with a two RBI single.
Ranck had two hits and a run scored.
‘Everybody expected us to win the district but sometimes that is harder to do. We faced quality teams and beat a real good pitcher for Mott,? Price said. ‘The kids responded with two well played games. We were at home and we took care of business.?
Earlier in the day, the Wolves beat Kettering 16-6. Matt Orris went the distance and picked up the win. Orris also had two hits at the plate. Ranck had two hits, two RBIs and four runs. Matt Brady and Chase Morris each had three RBIs.
Clarkston scored five runs in the fourth, four runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth.
The Wolves move onto to regional competition Saturday, June 7 at West Bloomfield against Walled Lake Northern.
