If the Clarkston Watershed Group gets their way, Depot Park will serve as an example to the whole community about protecting water resources.
The group recently received a $750 grant from the Oakland Native Partnership Initiative. The grant is meant to pay for native plantings and other measures to prevent run off as well as promote public awareness about taking care of water and shorelines.
‘We’re really pleased. It’s relatively small? but its a real good thing to get started what we want to start,? said City Council Member Cory Johnston.
According to City Council Member Jim Brueck, the grant was filed on Feb. 12 and will help the Depot Park Environmental project.
In addition to the ONPI grant, the group intends to file for a five-star $15,000 grant with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation in early fall to further the project and fight soil erosion.
The Clarkston Watershed Group consists of members of the Clarkston City Council, the River of Life Group of St. Daniel Church, the North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy, the Clarkston Farm and Garden Club and other community members.
