Comcast compromises, but doesn’t offer office

The Orion Community Cable Communications Commission (OCCCC) has finally reached a resolution with Comcast after it moved their billing office out of Orion Township; however the cable company will not be putting an office back in the township.
OCCCC Chairman Doug Corliss told the Orion Township Board of Trustees on Sept. 7 that an agreement had been reached with Comcast, after the OCCCC approached the board nearly a year ago asking for approval to seek legal remedies against Comcast for breaking its franchise agreement.
The agreement with Orion Township stated that Comcast would maintain a service office within the township. However, Comcast moved their office from Orion to Clarkston.
‘We’ve now reached what we think is a fair and equitable solution,? Corliss said ‘There will still not be an office in Orion, but Comcast has agreed to keep a rolling repair truck fleet…instead of going to Clarkston for equipment issues, they’ll roll a truck out to your house.?
Regarding bill payment, Comcast customers in Orion Township can now pay their bill at the Kroger store on Lapeer Road, the Kroger store on Baldwin Road or the Oxford Bank in Orion.
‘There will be a $1 processing fee charged (at those locations), but customers can call and they will get a $1 credit on their next bill from Comcast,? Corliss said.
The number to call for Comcast is 1-888-207-9895. Corliss said Comcast will be sending out cards in the next 30 days to customers relaying the same information.
‘We’d still prefer to have a payment center within the geographic boundaries of the township, but this satisfies the franchise agreement,? he added.
‘I think the cable commission took it step by step…to get where we are today,? said cable commission member and township trustee Richard Tomczak. ‘After long discussions…I have to hand it to Mr. Corliss, he’s a great leader.
‘It’s been a long journey, but I think it will end satisfactorily for the residents of the township and the village.?
