Competency exam ordered for man charged in deputies death

On Dec. 4, Judge Joesph Fabrizio at Clarkston’s 52-2 District Court ordered via video hearing that Christopher Berak, 22, be given a psychiatric GetImageevaluation.
Berak, who allegedly killed Oakland County Sheriff Deputy Eric Overall early Thanksgiving morning, is being held at Macomb County jail without bond until his next hearing on Feb. 12. Though he was in court on Monday, he didn’t speak.
During his pre-trial hearing, his lawyer Stephan Rabaut said that Berak was being treated for mental health issues prior to the incident.
Berak faces one count of premeditated murder in the first degree and one count of murder of a police officer, both of which are life sentences, if he is convicted.
