Goodrich – Ken’s Redi-Mix will pay $3.45 million to the family of victims killed in a 2004 concrete truck accident.
The civil settlement follows the November 2004 sentencing of Ken’s Redi-Mix driver Matthew Woods, who skidded into the Chevrolet Venture van on M-15 north of Bristol Road on April 9, 2004, killing Pamela and Sam Doyon of Atlas Township, and Pamela’s mother Sandra Thrasher of Orion Township. Max Doyon, then 3, suffered severe injuries in the accident.
Woods originally was charged with three counts of negligent homicide in the accident. The case was remanded back to district court after Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving, a misdemeanor charge, said Genesee County Assistant Prosecutor Randy Petrides in an October 2004 interview with The Citizen. Woods was sentenced to two years probation, 1,000 hours of community service, and ordered not to drive commercially without court approval. He was also ordered to serve one week of jail time following the sentencing by Central District Judge Larry J. Stecco, who expressed that no sentence arising from the accident would be ‘fair or just?.
The $3 million insurance settlement will be paid to Max and Robert Doyon, along with other family members. The additional $450,000 will be paid to Max Doyon over a 10-year period.
‘It’s a tragedy,? said attorney Terry O’Neill of Saginaw, who represented Ken’s Redi-Mix. ‘I think everyone involved is glad (court proceedings) are over with.?
Robert Doyon, the father of Max, did not wish to comment on the settlement, but asked the community to remember his son.
‘I’d just like to ask if people want to continue to pray for Max,? he said.
