Conflict errupts at village skate park

Ortonville – Bickering and a single punch at the village skate park caused a neighbor to insist that Brandon Recreation Director, Fred Waybrant close the park.
The neighbor stopped Waybrant on the street insisting he either hire a permanent patrol of the park or close it down.
Waybrant, however, says the May 11 incident between three young teens is the first he’s heard of and he doesn’t want to take skateboarding away from the rest of the area teens, by closing it down.
‘Two boys were bickering about a set of skateboard wheels,? said Waybrant.
‘After a little bit of pushing and shoving, one of the kids punched the other and it was over as fast as that.?
Both the village offices and the Oakland County Sheriff substation say they have had past complaints of kids in the park after hours, or riding bikes in the area, but have not previously had any complaints of fights or rough behavior at the village skate park.
After the incident Waybrant monitored the park and said more than 35 kids continued to enjoy the park, cohesively.
