Currently, a member of the Clarkston City Council with a conflict of interest can neither vote on nor discuss an agenda item; however, that rule may change. City Council is moving to revise Ordinance 142, which focuses on conflicts of interest.
If accepted, the revision will allow a council member who declares a conflict of interest to speak on an agenda item as a citizen of the village, but they will still be restricted from voting.
The council member would leave their seat at the table and sit with the public to speak. The second reading of the ordinance will be on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall. Check villageofclarkston.org.
