Consumer’s pipeline could include limestone pathway

At the request of Orion Township Parks and Recreation director Rock Blanchard, the township board has authorized spending up to $4,900 to have township engineers review a proposed route for a limestone pathway along a gas pipeline being installed by Consumers Energy.
Consumers will begin installing the pipeline through Orion Township this spring. The township has asked them to consider installing a limestone path along the pipeline when they restore the area, and they agreed.
Blanchard said the township will gain about six miles of trail at a fraction of the cost, and it will provide a recreation trail that would link with the Polly Ann and Paint Creek Trails, as well as township safety paths.
The deadline for the township to sign on to the project is Aug. 15.
