Brandon Twp.- The increased value of scrap metal has resulted in a repetitive problem for the library.
On Aug. 1, Library Director Paula Gauthier reported to Brandon deputies the theft of two copper gutter downspouts. The theft is the third the library has endured this summer. In the other thefts, four copper downspouts were taken each time. Gutters at the library, 304 South St., have also been damaged by the thief or thieves, as the downspouts are removed.
‘We have a very active investigation into this,? said Sgt. Mike Searing of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Brandon substation. ‘Copper theft is a very big problem. It’s sold to scrapyards.?
