Cops say crash was hit-and-run

A 30-year-old Oxford man who allegedly fled the scene of an accident where the other driver was injured is facing not only a traffic ticket, but a misdemeanor charge as well.
The crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 at the intersection of M-24 and Oakdell Rd.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept., the Oxford man was northbound on M-24 in a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser when he struck the rear of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix stopped in the road, waiting to make a left-turn onto westbound Oakdell Rd.
The driver of the Grand Prix, a 17-year-old Oxford woman was transported to Crittenton Hospital in Rochester with possible head and/or neck injuries that were described as minor in nature by Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Perry.
Rather than wait for police and fire personnel to arrive, the Oxford man allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle, which he parked on the south side of nearby Tom’s Hardware.
Sheriff’s deputies indicated the Oxford man was found hiding next to the hardware store. He told authorities his brakes had malfunctioned, which caused the crash.
The young man was cited for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a misdemeanor, and failure to stop in an assured clear distance, which is a civil infraction.
When asked why the young driver allegedly fled the scene, Perry replied, ‘Sometimes you get people in a high stress situation and they just freak out. Who knows??
