Creekside Salon

Situated across from Depot Park in downtown Clarkston, Creekside Salon offers a relaxed atmosphere and talented, personable stylists who love what they do.
Ask owner Lisa Burdick what it is she likes best about arriving at Creekside each morning and she’ll answer without hesitation’it’s the salon’s clientele.
‘We’ve been blessed with phenomenal customers,? said Burdick, who managed the business for 15 years before buying it from the previous owner in 1997. ‘Our loyal followers have been such a gift and I’m so thankful for them.?
A few years after she purchased the business, Burdick moved the salon to its current location off Depot, a definite change for the better.
‘Everyone tells us the salon feels really cozy,? Burdick said. ‘We’ve made it classy, but it’s also extremely comforting to be here.?
Creekside offers hair care and styling for women, men and children, and also offers eyebrow and lip waxing, perms and color services.
Although perms are mostly out of style, the demand for hair color is widely accepted and sought after, allowing stylists to use creative ideas and techniques with multi-coloring and highlights’even highlights strategically placed to make a particular style really ‘pop.?
In order to stay on top of the latest advances in the hair care industry, Burdick keeps up with trends and pays close attention to current fashions.
But, she said, it’s also a good idea to avoid locking onto any one idea.
‘It’s important to stay in touch with what’s in fashion and then be a little creative yourself,? she said. ‘It’s like a pallet; you have this person’s head in front of you; no face and hair combination is the same, so you can be incredibly creative with hair color.?
It’s easy to tell Burdick likes her work.
‘It’s just really enjoyable? she said, ‘The creativity and the chemistry of mixing up color to get just the right look is a great challenge and rewarding part of my job.?
But not the only fun part, she notes, explaining that she has a high regard for the salon’s other two stylists, Becky Laney and Brooke Manuel, and said the three work very well together.
‘Each of our abilities complements the others,? she said. ‘Our cuts and colors are just a little bit different, so each stylist adds her own unique talent and personality, which makes customers want to come back.?
But the trio works well together for other reasons, too: they’ve been doing it a long time.
‘Every stylist who works here started her career here, and is still here,? Burdick said.
It’s not something often found in an industry with so much turnover.
The longevity of both the salon and the stylists, Burdick said, helps in her mission to provide high-quality service to each customer.
At some of the larger salons, she explained, clients are often shampooed by one person, cut by another person, and colored by a third person.
Not so at Creekside.
Like much of downtown Clarkston, Creekside Salon is proud of its long, rich history.
‘I love my job,? Burdick said. ‘I feel so fortunate, after having done this as many years as I have, I still love to come here. It’s a pleasant, fun place to come to each day.?
Creekside Salon is located at 20 W. Washington St., Suite 12 B, in the back of Washington Mills, easily accessible off Depot Street. For more information or to make an appointment, call 248-625-8611. Walk-ins are always welcome.

Tucked away off Main Street and Depot Road in downtown Clarkston is a lovely little gem called Creekside Salon.
The salon has been part of the village for over eight and all the staff members are career stylists at Creekside.
Lisa Burdick, salon owner, expressed her pride and appreciation for the staff.
‘The women who work here with are the greatest, both professionally and personally,? Burdick said. ‘They strive to excel in their work and continue to focus on updating education and fashion sense. We have an exceptional staff of serious professionals who are wonderfully talented, friendly people.?
Specializing in total hair care, the staff has every aspect of color and cuts down to a science. ‘Easy hair care? is the motto and that is exactly what is the fashion and desire of the clientele. With everyone living very busy lives, the requests always seem to be for great cuts that are easy and quick to do, and of course, in style.
The talented stylists can include color and sun-catching hues to add dimension and shadows to pull the entire look together.
‘This time of year is always a popular time for colorful hair,? Burdick said. ‘After a couple of gray Michigan months, the March color madness begins.
‘It seems everyone needs a sunny boost, even in their hair,? Burdick said. ‘We do a tremendous amount of color especially at this time of year to brighten up the mood and the hair. It truly is a wonderful lift.?
Creekside is a unique salon situation. The staff’s goal is to go above and beyond great hair care and service. Once inside, the peaceful environment allows the client to be relaxed and pampered. Soft music plays to lull the stress of the day away and allow the individual to melt into total relaxation.
According to Burdick, the goal is to get a client to forget every little stressful issue, if even for 30 minutes.
‘It is such a fabulous gift to give them, and they truly appreciate it,? Burdick said.
The staff welcomes everyone to Creekside Salon.
‘We are so fortunate to have such a great following,? Burdick said. ‘I cannot say ‘thank you? enough to our customers who have been with us for so long.?
