Crime Watch Aug. 15, 2020

Larceny
At 9:21 a.m., Aug. 12, Brandon deputies responded to a report of larceny. Deputies met with the homeowner, who runs a business out of her home. She said she had fired an employee a few months ago and per company policy, upon termination, all employees are responsible to return business equipment. According to the woman, she said the terminated employee has almost $5,000 in business equipment still. She had been in contact with the employee, who claimed to be out of state and implied she would be home in July and would send the equipment then. The homeowner had still not received the equipment and the employee would not respond to phone calls. The case was forwarded to the detective bureau.
Neighborhood issues
At 7:09 a.m., Aug. 11, Brandon deputies responded to a report of neighborhood trouble. Upon arrival, deputies saw a man outside throwing his backpack against the side of the residence. He was identified by his driver’s license. The subject’s ex-girlfriend lives at the residence with her sister, and the man was upset because he is homeless and the sister would not let him spend the night at the residence. The sister stated that the subject was punching and kicking the side of her home and she wanted him charged with malicious destruction of property. The subject admitted to being upset because he had nowhere to go. The sister, the homeowner, was requested to get a written estimate of the damage and contact deputies when she did.

The man was arrested and issued a ticket for damage to property before being transported to a homeless shelter and was told not to return to the residence.
Large party
At 12:36 a.m., July 31, Brandon deputies responded to a request for assistance from another law enforcement agency. Deputies were dispatched to assist a trooper with a large party. Upon arrival, deputies met with officers on the scene, who advised there had been a large party in the woods but that everyone was leaving and he was all set and did not need further assistance.
Car, motorcycle fatal
At 11:23 p.m., Aug. 11, Brandon deputies responded to a fatal vehicle crash at the intersection of Baldwin and Oakwood roads. A woman was operating a vehicle westbound on Oakwood Road while a man was operating a motorcycle on Baldwin Road. The man failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the vehicle. He was ejected from his motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet and the driver of the vehicle was wearing a seat belt. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital by Brandon Fire, where she is listed in stable condition. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor, and the crash remains under investigation.
