Cross country teams finish 4-4, run personal bests

Oxford’s cross country teams both finished their regular season last week with 4-4 records. Both the boys and girls teams lost their tri-meet against Holly and Fenton Oct. 10.
‘We were very pleased with how we ran even though we got beat,? said Coach Ray Sutherland. ‘Almost every girl, just like the boys, had a personal best run for that day.?
The boys were led by Adam Heskitt (17:32/7th), Ben Cole (17:46/8th) and Erik Joergen(17:47/9th). Setting personal records were Heskitt, Joergen, Andy Stein (18:08), Mike Brendel (18:21), Chase Tucker (18:22), Matt Deighton (19:11), Chris Brendel (19:22) and Dylan Smith (19:22).
Holly and Fenton both beat the boys 21-36 (in cross country, low score wins).
The girls were led by Taylor Dewey (20:39) and Megan Seeley (20:44), who ran the seventh and ninth fastest times in the school’s history, respectively.
Shannon Seeley came in third at 22:16 and with Kelsea Schodowski (22:25) and Danielle Kelley (22:46) behind her.
Holly beat the girls 21-40 while Fenton beat them 26-29.
‘Individually, we ran real well (this season),? Sutherland said. ‘With the girls, we probably had our best times in the last 10 years. The only problem was so did a lot of other schools.?
On Saturday, Oxford Hills Golf & Country Club hosted the Oxford Invitational. As a team, the boys took 11th place overall. Cole ran 17:31 and medaled in 28th place. Heskitt ran 17:46 and medaled in 37th place.
The girls placed 13th and had no individual medal winners.
Oxford will vie for the Flint Metro League championship today (Oct. 17) in Lapeer and compete in regionals Oct. 27 at Springfield Oaks County Park.
