Customer assaults restaurant owner

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of assault at Opa’s Restaurant on Lapeer Road on Oct. 7.
According to an OCSD report, the 43-year-old owner of the restaurant said a white male (later identified as a 26-year-old Washington man) entered the restaurant and sat at the bar, asking for a drink. The owner felt the man was obviously intoxicated, and was using profanity, so he was asked to leave. He refused, and as the owner was escorting him out, the man became aggressive and struck the owner on the face.
A customer grabbed the man and they both left on foot, heading towards Orion Cove Apartments. The owner said he did wish to press charges against he man, who was later located by the OCSD at Taco Bell.
The man told the OCSD that he and his sister had gone to Opa’s for a drink, and admitted to a confrontation with the bar owner, claiming the owner hit him. The man was cited by the OCSD for assault and battery.
