DDA hires Butler

Nina Butler, the new assistant events coordinator for Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA), is using her experience to bring more people to Oxford.
Butler, a Mount Clemens resident, has a one-year contract with the DDA where she’ll make $15,000 for 1,000 hours of work.
At the DDA, Butler will coordinate the events that Oxford has annually, such as the Scarecrow Festival in the fall, and will be the office man ager.
‘My goal for this job is to help the people in Oxford as well as attract more people to Oxford,? said Butler.
Butler has had a lot of experience with development and urban planning through her internships and schooling. She received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University for social science and only has one year left until she will receive her master’s degree for urban planning from Wayne State University.
While interning at the non-profit HP DevCo., an economic development corporation in Highland Park, and working as the Research Assistant at Wayne State University, Butler has gained a tremendous amount of experience in her field of work.
Carolyn Bennett, the Director of the Oxford DDA, feels Butler’s experience working for the Eastern Market Corporation in Detroit will help her the most when working on the events in Oxford.
‘Nina was the best candidate by far for the job because of the experience she has had and her great organizational skills,? said Bennett.
Butler’s experience and organizational skills are very important in doing her job and her main priority right now is doing the best she can to learn everything she needs to about the town.
With all of her experience Butler choose Oxford because it’s very different from the other places she worked.
‘I’m used to working in Detroit and Highland Park. Oxford is smaller in comparison, but it is very unique with its government and way of life,? Butler said. ‘I think this will be a great learning experience for me.?
Butler is excited to learn more about the town and meet the people that live here.
‘I’m very happy working in Oxford because everyone I have meet has been really nice and inviting. Working with these people and in this community is going to make my job a lot of fun,? said Butler.
Butler is ready for a fun learning experience and the DDA is ready for her.
‘We are really happy to have her here,? Bennett said.
