The filing deadline to be placed on the November ballot as a candidate for local school board and village council seats is 4 p.m., July 26.

The Brandon School Board has four seats up for election this year, currently held by Kevin McClellan, Lisa Kavalhuna, Christopher Yuchasz and John Chartier. Each seat is a 4-year term that will begin Jan. 1, 2017 and end Dec. 31, 2020. Candidates must be registered voters residing in the Brandon School District.

To apply to be put on the ballot, candidates must either pay a $100 non-refundable filing fee, or obtain a school district nominating petition and a minimum of 40 signatures, but not more than 100 signatures from registered voters in the school district. Filing fees and petitions must be submitted at the Oakland County Elections Division, 1200 N. Telegraph, Pontiac.

The Village of Ortonville Council has five seats up for grabs, of varying terms.

The village council president seat, currently held by Wayne Wills, is a 2-year term. Also available is a partial-term trustee seat that Keith Dylus was appointed to when Liz Waters resigned to take a seat on the Brandon Township Board. That term expires in 2018.

Three 4-year trustee seats are also up for election, currently held by Debbie Baker, Dan Eschmann and Courtney McClerren.

To run for any of the council seats, candidates must be residents of the Village of Ortonville and obtain a minimum of six and maximum of 20 petition signatures of registered voters in the village.

Village council candidate packets and petitions are available at the Brandon Township offices, 395 Mill Street, and must be returned there by 4 p.m., July 26.
