Death of scalded toddler is suspicious

A 21-month-old Orion Township girl who was scalded before being put to bed on Saturday evening later died at POH Medical Center, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred on Dec. 18, when the girl was given a bath in her home at the Waldon Lakes Apartments complex on Joslyn Road, by her father’s girlfriend, a 27-year-old Pontiac woman.
The water used to bath the girl was very hot, and the girl was scalded, the OCSD said. After the bath, the woman put the child to bed.
When the girl’s father, a 27-year-old Orion Township man, tried to wake her up on the morning of Dec. 19, the girl was unresponsive and he noticed her skin was peeling off.
The girl was taken to POH in Pontiac where she was pronounced dead.
Four other children living in the apartment have been taken into protective custody.
The OCSD is investigating the death as suspicious, and said the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office has said the girl died of dehydration due to her scalding burns.
No one has yet been charged by the OCSD in the incident.
