Despite tough competition, grapplers 9-0

Oxford’s wrestlers are on a roll as the varsity team racked up seven more wins last week.
‘We’ve set a goal in every competition as to what we want to do as a team and we’ve achieved those goals very nicely,? said Coach Scott Couch. ‘We’re now 9-0 as a team.?
In a quad meet hosted by Waterford Kettering Dec. 5, Oxford beat Chippewa Valley 38-27 and Northville 66-9.
Then on Saturday Oxford was the overall winner of the Romeo team tournament scoring victories in five dual meets. The Cats beat Birmingham Seaholm 66-9, Romeo 32-24, Wyandotte 43-21, Richmond 36-33 and Saginaw 78-3.
What’s really impressive is Oxford beat two of the top wrestling teams in Macomb County, Romeo and returning state champ Richmond.
‘It’s not easy competition anywhere,? Couch said. ‘But that’s the way we like it. We like to work hard.?
Next up is the Oakland County tournament, which will take Oxford to South Lyon Friday and Clarkston on Saturday. ‘We’re going to Oakland County looking to add to our list,? Couch said. ‘We’re going to come in and battle. I think it may come down to us and Clarkston. We’ll just see how that works out.?
Wrestlers from 48 teams, all schools in Oakland County, will square off in this individual tournament.
‘It’s such a big tournament. There’s so many things that could happen, you never know,? Couch said. ‘Clarkston’s really tough right now and I’m sure Lake Orion’s going to want some revenge.?
