DI student honors

Goodrich – Five sixth-grade middle school students were honored on Monday night during the school board meeting following their recent participation in the Destination Imagination competition. Coach Cindy Smith thanked the board and the community for their support.
Among the 72 teams from 12 counties, the middle school Destination Imagination team finished 36th. The countries represented were: Brazil, Canada, Columbia, China, Guatemala, Poland, Singapore, Turkey, Korea, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
The DI team, which included Kelsey Gavulic, Justin Broecker, Scott Sinischo, Rhiannon Smith and Katie Williams, raised more than $4,700 and traveled to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in May for the global competition.
School officials say it was the first team in school history to qualify for the global finals after winning gold medals at the Destination Imagination state competition on April 16 at Central Michigan University.
