If you think a dollar isn’t a lot money or can’t buy much these days, then you obviously haven’t shopped at the new Dollar King of Oxford yet.
Located at 190 S. Washington St. in the Oxford Marketplace, the 6,000-square-foot store opened June 26 and features thousands and thousands of diverse items that can all be purchased for a mere buck.
‘Everything in the store is a dollar or under,? said Nathan Grove, whose family owns the new store, along with the Ace Hardware next door. ‘Some things are two for a dollar, some are three for a dollar, some are just a dollar.?
In addition to unbeatable low prices, the Dollar King of Oxford features a giant selection of items including hardware, health and beauty products, back-to-school and office supplies, household cleaning supplies, a whole wall of gift bags, ceramics, kitchen items, foods and beverages, candles, toys, greeting cards, picture frames, baskets, purses and much more.
If the Dollar King of Oxford doesn’t have the item you’re looking for, don’t worry, more stock is being added. Grove said the store is keeping a list of products customers have said they ‘would like to see or have seen in other dollar stores.?
‘We’re trying to keep a tally and then order those items,? he said. ‘We want to give people what they want.?
While offering low prices and a large selection are often the main goals of many retail stores, they’re simply not enough for the Dollar King of Oxford.
The new store is also committed to selling its customers only quality merchandise.
‘If it’s not good quality, we’re not going to carry it,? Grove said. ‘We don’t want to put just anything on the shelf, just to sell it for a dollar. We’re trying to get the best quality stuff we can.?
Since opening last week, Grove said ‘the response (from the public) has been great.?
‘People have been real excited and happy with the product selection so far,? he said. ‘The community needed this.?
Prior to becoming a dollar store, the 6,000-square-foot space served as Ace Hardware’s ‘Garden Center.?
The Grove family’s decision to close the center and open a dollar store was simple economics.
‘In the nursery business, we had two good months a year, May and June. In mid-July, the season would start to taper off and then the rest of the year, there weren’t a lot of sales,? Grove said.
‘We were looking for a business that was good all year long and would fill a need in the area,? he added.
The Dollar King of Oxford is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
