Talented. Inspiring. Soulful. Amazing.
Take your pick because any one of these adjectives could be used to describe last week’s Oxford Idol competition held at the high school’s Performing Arts Center.
Presented by the OHS Theater Company, the 6th annual event featured 12 students singing their hearts out to an ecletic mix of tunes.
After three rounds of intense competition, the 450-member audience voted to award senior Doron Jones the 2010 Oxford Idol title.
In the first round, Jones sang ‘Go the Distance? from the 1997 Disney film ‘Hercules.?
Round two had Jones performing ‘Bless the Broken Road? by Rascal Flatts.
For his finale, Jones sang ‘Haven’t Met You Yet? by Michael Buble.
OHS teachers Jason Eldridge, Katie Goetz and Kathryn Blaszczyk served as judges for the first two rounds. This year’s competition was hosted by students Devon Johnson, Makayla Eckardt and Zach Throne.
The event earned $1,022 for the OHS Theater Company, which will be performing ‘Night of the Living Dead? at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.
