The Lake Orion Community Schools Dragon Guided Activities Program (GAP) and the Special Education Department partnered to host the second annual Lake Orion Benefit Volleyball Tournament on Jan. 31, held at the Lake Orion High School Fieldhouse.
Twenty teams from throughout the Southeast Michigan area competed in the day-long fundraiser tournament. Proceeds from the event went directly to the Dragon GAP after school program and the Special Education student programs throughout the Lake Orion School District.
The tournament raised over $5,400 for the two programs, and an additional $3,500 in donations and prizes was also collected. Several local businesses made various levels of donations to the tournament.
The winning team in the competitive division was the ‘Sherwood? team from Rochester. The intermediate division champion crown went to ‘The Sore Ones? team from Farmington.
The Dragon GAP and Special Education Department are still seeking monetary and sports equipment donations for their programs to offset recent state-level budget cuts.
Residents interested in making a monetary donation to either program can contact Lake Orion Dragon GAP Coordinator Ben Gerdeman at 693-5458.
