Dragon hockey team is best in OAA Red

Putting the final touches on an OAA Red Division championship wasn’t easy the past week as the Dragons couldn’t get the final victory to clinch the title.
Lake Orion had a great effort last week against Rochester United on Friday night before settling for a 2-2 tie. The Dragons outplayed Rochester for much of the game.
The game was a strong test for both teams. Rochester entered the game ranked fifth in the state in Division One while Lake Orion was ranked eighth.
Rochester needed a goal with 3:48 left in the third period to tie the game at 2-2. After an eight-minute scoreless overtime, the teams settled for the draw.
A victory against Clarkston on the weekend could have secured the division championship but the Wolves shut out the Dragons, 4-0, in LO’s final league game. The Dragon’s finished 4-1-1 in league play which should be enough for at least a share of the title.
The Dragons sit atop the OAA Red but it is possible that Berkley United could secure a tie for the league championship with victory over Rochester United. The game was scheduled for Wednesday.
The Rochester United game saw a packed house at the Onyx and some solid play from both teams. RU netted the first goal but Ben Brock scored on a pass from Jason Grieb to tie it at 1-1.
Alex Giwa put the Dragons ahead 2-1with an assist from Drew Casey in the third period but RU tied the game with 3:48 left in regulation.
Lake Orion’s goalie, Logan Aldrich, played well throughout the game and made some big stops in overtime to secure the tie.
