Girls? team now 5-6 this season
The LOHS girls? lacrosse teams hosted Troy High School, Monday, April 10.
The JV Lady Dragons played hard, but lost to the Colts 12-6. Mary Thompson scored three goals and Mallory DeMott scored twice. Rachel Cech also scored for Lake Orion. Beth Giguere saved six of 13 Troy shots, and Tiffanie Smrtnik saved two of seven, splitting duties in the goal.
The LO varsity girls trailed just 8-5 at halftime to Michigan’s fifth ranked, Troy Colt girls, before falling 16-5. Goalie Lindsay Butterfield was terrific, saving 19 Troy shots on the night. Jodie Parker scored twice, while Nicole Blovet, Jessica Smude and Sarah Cech scored one goal each.
The LOHS girls lacrosse teams traveled to Clarkston on Wednesday for OAA Division games. Unfortunately for the Dragons, both the JV and varsity lost close games.
The JV girls were beaten 8-5. Goals were scored by DeMott, Miranda Lieblein, Mary Thompson, Maddie Barry and Andy Roll. Freshman goalie Smrtnik was outstanding, saving 14 of 22 Clarkston shots for a 64% GSP.
The varsity girls also lost, by a score of 13-10. Parker scored three times and had an assist. Paige Hammerl, Sarah Cech and each scored twice. Butterfield saved 12 of 25 Wolves shots on the night.
Monday, May 17, the girls hosted Flushing and both teams came away victorious.
The JV Dragons held on for an 8-6 win and are now 8-5-1 overall. They controlled the draws, passed the ball very well and secured 18 ground balls. The offense was lead by Rachel Cech, Lieblein and Emily Hendrix who each scored 2 goals. Monica Arpino and Roll added one goal each. Smrtnik saved five Flushing shots on goal.
The Varsity ladies won by a 13-6 score to improve their season record to 7-6-1. This is already a school record for wins, with several games remaining in 2010. The scoring was lead by Carly Brooks who had three goals and one assist. Parker had two goals and four assists. Hammerl and Sarah Cech added two goals each. Ronnie Booth had a goal and an assist, while Nash, Seeds and Kaileen Tweedie also scored goals for the Dragons. Butterfield saved 10 of 16 Flushing shots for a 62.5% night.

Boys? team takes a 10-4 hit
The boys? varsity lacrosse team traveled to Clarkston, May 12, for the Wolves? fifth annual Game for a Cure. Dragons lost, 10-4.
Both teams remained scoreless throughout the first quarter until Dragon Brad Bogus scored with 1:16 to go.
The Wolves didn’t take it lightly going in to the next quarter and scored two goals within the first two minutes.
First half ended 4-2, with Clarkston on top. The second half sealed the deal, and Lake Orion ended up on the losing side of a 10-4 score.
