Dragons took to the ice last weekend in the Novi Invitational. They played South Lyon and Northville, two strong clubs, according to Assistant Coach Don Finn.
Friday, South Lyon beat the Dragons 6-3.
?[The game] taught the young Dragons that undisciplined play resulting in untimely penalties can really hurt when it comes to the scoreboard,? said Finn.
Lions converted over fifty of their power play opportunities, scoring four times in seven chances, according to Finn, helping South Lyon get a 6-0 lead after two periods.
Just prior to the end of the second perioid, Head Coach Pat Cherry called a time out.
‘He must of said something magical, as [we] took no penalties the rest of the game,? Finn said, adding Dragons outscored their opponents in the third period, 3-0.
In Saturday’s contest, Dragons lost 3-2 to perininal state power Northville Mustangs.
‘The game was filled with excitment as the action was non-stop, up and down the ice,? said the assistant coach.
Teams traded goals until the final 1:40 of the third period when Northville was able score their third and final goal.
?[The team] played with alot of positive emotion, however at times, their undisciplined actions caused them to take eight penalties to the Mustangs? one,? Finn said.
After the game, Coach Cherry let the players know, that dispite their effort, playing short handed for 16 minutes of a game makes it difficult to gain momentum against a strong opponent.
Dragons are back to work at practice this week before traveling to Traverse City for two games, Friday and Saturday night.
‘The road does not get any easier,? said Finn, as they play Traverse City West at 6 p.m. Friday, and either Traverse City Central or Warren DeLaSalle on Saturday.
