Not a seat was empty during the final tournament of the Lake Orion vs. Oxford Special Olympics basketball game at Lake Orion High School.
Nor was there a quiet moment, with the pack of student Dragons hollering, whooping and doing the wave the entire game.
Although the Wildcats clinched the game in the final two minutes, 26-23, the Dragons made that extremely difficult.
‘We gave them a run for their money, that’s for sure,? Stephen Figuero said.
Figuero, Charlie Ghazal and Bobby Moore led the Dragons, Figuero with four baskets during the game, and Ghazal and Moore each with three.
‘We did very good, it was a close game that came down to the end,? Coach Jim MacDonald said. ‘This is the game they look forward to all year.?
Although the Wildcats got the Dragons on their home turf, a month earlier the Dragons did the same.
‘We upset them at their own turf, 28-23, and they came here and put on a show for us,? Tommy Strauss said. ‘It was fun seeing 3,500 students in the gym, cheerleaders in the half time show, and the girls? dance team dancing in front of the whole school. The crowd was wild.?
Overall the Dragons compete in eight games throughout the season, with the culminating game in the final contest against the Wildcats.
