Drunk driver knocks out Bellevue power

A truck slammed into an electric pole on Bellevue Avenue late last Friday night, just north of the Bellevue Bridge, knocking out power to the entire island.
The pole was on fire and live wires were on top of the vehicle. Lake Orion police officers arrived to discover the truck unoccupied and dangling close to the lake.
The officers found the truck was registered locally on the island and headed off to the home. Two male subjects were found walking away from the vehicle.
According to LO Police Chief Jerry Narsh, the driver was a 22-year-old man from Rochester who has never applied for a Michigan driver’s license.
The driver was arrested with his third offense for driving under the influence and his second offense of driving with a suspended license.
The power was restored later Friday morning and parts of Bellevue Avenue were closed until 7 p.m. so the electrical wires could be restrung.
‘This case would have been solved quicker had the persons involved been more truthful,? said Narsh. The two individuals ‘dragged it out three to four hours,? by trying to deceive the police.
The case is being presented to prosecuting attorney’s office for charges.
‘Stop and think before you drink and drive; it’s not worth it,? said Narsh. ?(Not driving drunk) could save your life or someone else’s.?
