Eight file for village council in March

This year’s ballot for a spot on the Lake Orion Village Council is crowded with eight people vying for four seats. The election is scheduled to take place March 8.
Incumbents who hope to return for another term include Tom Albert of South Broadway, Douglas Dendel of Longpointe, Robert Hollenbeck of Bagley and Ken Van Portfliet of South Andrews.
Others running for office are Mark Brancheau, a former council member who lives on South Broadway, Patricia Kartje of South Broadway, Lisa Simpkins of Central Drive and Jeffrey Waldecker of North Washington.
The three highest vote getters earn a two year term. The fourth highest vote total will be on the council for one year.
Although there are a lot of candidates, no primary election is necessary. The village charter allows two candidates per seat (four vacant) for a general election. So this year, nine people would have had to turn in petitions before a primary election took place.
