Embezzlement in Hi Hill

The treasurer of a Orion area homeowner’s association has been charged with embezzling around $6,000 of his neighbor’s money, reportedly to purchase golf equipment.
Kevin Douglas Harris, of the Hi Hill Village subdivision, posted bond after being charged with embezzling more than $1,000 but less than $20,000. His attorney was unavailable for comment.
Don Rittenburgh, President of the association, said suspicions began when it became clear Harris, 32, was not doing his job.
‘He wasn’t completing his required duties or providing financial reports and also wasn’t completing the paperwork to add a second and third signer to the neighborhood’s checking account,? he said. ‘The board removed the treasurer and provided the meeting minutes to our financial institution to have the Treasurer removed and replace him with three board members. Upon reviewing the account, we saw some transaction that appeared to be inconsistent with what the board had approved so we immediately took it to the Oakland County Sheriffs Office.?
The purchases started in 2007 and were mostly made using the direct pay service PayPal.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Harris attempted to pay back what ‘he felt he had spent.?
