False start call hampers Brandon swimmers

A misstep by the Brandon varsity boys swimming led to their first loss of the year in dual meet action.
The Blackhawks lost by eight points, 97-89, in a Jan. 31 meet against Flint Kearsley-Davison. Brandon is now 6-1 in dual meet action this season.
In the very first event of the meet, the 200 yard medley relay, the Blackhawks were called for a false start penalty. Kearsley-Davison took the first two places in that event to take command of the meet.
A bright spot for the Blackhawks came in the 50 yard freestyle, where Brandon’s Josh Collier and Brad MacIntyre won the first two places. Collier finished in a time of 25.55, while MacIntyre clocked in at 25.95.
MacIntyre also earned a win for the Blackhawks in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in a time of 1:07.12.
Tyler Walls and Tyson DeLandsheer also earned first place finishes for Brandon in individual action. Walls won the 100 yard backstroke (1:07.67), while Delandsheer won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.29).
Brandon’s other first place finish came in the 400 yard freestyle relay, where the team of Tyler Cole, Clayton Carpenter, Collier and MacIntyre checked in at 4:01.81.
