FAME scholarships

Goodrich-FAME (Fine Arts; a Mainstream in Education) recently awarded its first two scholarships to local students.
Both scholarships were in the amount of $300.
Awarding the scholarships ‘has been on our list of things we wanted to do and we were able to do it at the end of year two,? said Donna Heiderer, Co-Director of FAME.
The first scholarship, earmarked for a student who would be pursuing a four-year college degree in the fine arts, was awarded to James Tyner, who is pursuing a music education degree from the University of Michigan in Flint.
A second scholarship, designated for a student who has been active in the fine arts but will not pursue a degree in that field, was awarded to Taylor Moore. Moore will be pursuing a nursing degree, also at the University of Michigan in Flint.
Heiderer said funds for the scholarship came from FAME patrons and through a partnership with Oxford Bank.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications for the scholarship, Heiderer said FAME found a little something extra in the recipients of this year’s scholarships.
‘We looked for threads of involvement in the arts throughout their lives’not just in the schools. Both of (the recipients) demonstrated that they clearly understood the value of arts in their lives…? said Heiderer.
Heiderer added the organization hopes to continue to award the scholarships each year.
‘I think it is a sense of great pride for our community,? said Heiderer, ‘that we can offer them.?
