It’s spring and with it all sorts of things are blooming — especially thoughts of fresh cut flowers, veggies and fruit. Which brings us to farmers markets.
This year there are new developments in the arena of markets for farmers. First, the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority has taken over operations from local farmers? market managers, Kathy and Michael Wieland. Wieland Productions owns the name, Lake Orion Farmers? Market, and has stated, ‘No other organization has permission to use this name.?
Whatever the name, the farmers? market in downtown Lake Orion (run by the DDA) has a new manager, Tracy Woodrum. Woodrum will work also work administratively on other DDA projects, too.
According to DDA Director Suzanne Perreault, Woodrum
‘brings with her a background in professional sales, as well as, event planning experience. She has worked in the corporate world and also volunteered in a number of non-profit organizations.?
She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland University with a major in Marketing and a minor in Management Information Systems.
‘I enjoy working for the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority and the Farmers? Market because it gives me the opportunity to contribute within the community where my family lives.?
She recently completed training in Lansing, and was certified through the Michigan Farmers? Market Association (MIFMA).
The Farmers? Market is located at 93 S. AndersonStreet, adjacent to Children’s Park. The Market on Wednesdays from 2 to 7 p.m; from June 1 to Sept.28. Any vendors or farmers interested in participating should contact Tracy at 248-693-9742 .
