Warrants were issued on Tuesday for two Goodrich men following an altercation in the Commons Park.
According to reports from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, at about 5 p.m., March 22, a 15-year-old male was allegedly being harassed by a group of youths who were attempting to beat him up and steal his bicycle. The 15-year-old left the park and returned to his nearby home, telling a 30-year-old male family member about the incident.
A short time later the family member walked down to the park looking for the group and proceeded to fight with a 20-year-old man that just happened to be in the park at the time. The 20-year-old claims he had nothing to do with the harassment of the 15-year-old.
During the fight, the 20-year-old was cut on the knee and arm by a knife, which he possessed at the time of the altercation. Then, police said the 30-year-old male left the park and returned a short time later with a 60-year-old family member wielding a baseball bat. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, the 20-year-old was bleeding although it was uncertain if he was hit with the bat. All three men were arrested by a deputy at the park.
The 20-year-old was taken to an area hospital and treated for his injuries and later released. One of the suspects has a prior conviction.
On March 27, 67th District Judge Mark Latchana issued warrants for felonious assault for the two family members who were expected to turn themselves in to authorities as of press time on Thursday.
The names are withheld until the time of the arraignment.
