On Dec. 19, at 8:46 p.m., a walk-in complaint was filed at the Brandon substation.
The complainant and her son reported that he overheard threats made by a 14-year-old and 16-year-old at Brandon Alternative High School. The male suspects said they ‘wanted to rip out and stab someone just to know what it feels like.?
They then stated, ‘a group of people are going to shoot up the school Thursday or Friday.? The complainant’s son was terrified to go to school. The next day, Dec. 20, a Brandon deputy responded to the 3800 block of Redbud for a report of family trouble, which involved the same 14-year-old suspect who made threats at the school.
The complainant, the 14-year-old boy’s father, said he received a phone call from the Brandon Alternative High School that his 14-year-old son was making threats at school to stab people and shoot the place up. At around 5:30 p.m., the complainant said this 14-year-old son got in a fight with his other son, 11-years-old, over a video game. When the complainant tried to separate his sons, the enraged 14-year-old, who had already kicked a hole in the bathroom door, punched and kicked his father. The complainant bear hugged his son to try and calm him down, but the suspect then grabbed a knife, put the sharp end to his father’s chest and said he’d kill them and hated them all. The complainant slapped the knife out of his son’s hand and called police.
The complainant told the deputy he was a single father and had run out of ways to discipline his adult-sized son, that no matter how he disciplines, the son always turns to violence. The deputy noticed there were at least 10 video games in the home that involved killing.
When the deputy asked the 11-year-old son if he would rather have love or a killing video game, the 11-year-old replied that he didn’t know the difference.
The 14-year-old was lodged at the Oakland County Children’s Village.
